Building Businesses Within The Community
In 2013, IMC began a new endeavor aimed at helping needy families to start their own businesses in their own community. Beginning with Oscar Mariadaga, IMC provided the start-up funds to build a bodega (small store) in Reynel Funez where Oscar and his entire family could work and support each other. Oscar’s bodega today is open for business, selling tortillas, foods, staples, beverages, and refrigerated items. His family of seven are able to be self-sustaining, as they experience the pride of ownership that is far more permanent than a one-time handout.
IMC looks for opportunities to help villagers build additions to their homes so that they can open home-based businesses that can sustain the family through the ups and downs of this impoverished economy.
